Chaplain’s Corner March 2010

“I have told you these things so that, in me, you may have peace.” John 16:33

We all look forward to spring.  March brings with it the first day of spring, a newness and freshness we long for.  I believe we also look forward to Heaven.  The down side is you have to be dead to be eligible and have I met the requirements?  Good people go to Heaven, right?
Romans 3:23 says “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:10 says, “There is no one righteous not even one.”  This tells us we can’t earn our way there; we are not good enough. But, God, that’s not fair! Christianity’s appeal is forgiveness not fairness.  God set fairness aside and offered mercy and grace in its place. Romans 5:8 says that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  God went beyond fair and paid for our sins.  Good people don’t go to heaven; forgiven people go to heaven.  John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” “Whoever” is anyone who is willing. Believing is trusting that Jesus is who He claimed to be and that His death on the cross accomplished what He claimed it accomplished.  Believe in Jesus and look forward to Heaven.
